A native ERP connector means the AR platform maintains a purpose-built, supported integration with your accounting system, so open invoices, customers, payments and status flow both ways without middleware. In 2026 the deepest native coverage sits on NetSuite, Sage Intacct and QuickBooks Online. SAP and Oracle are well served by the enterprise suites, and older on-premises ERPs are the gap. The question that actually decides your rollout is not whether a vendor lists your ERP, it is which fields sync, in which direction, and how often.
Every AR automation vendor has an integrations page with your ERP logo on it. That logo can mean a live two-way API connection, a nightly CSV export, or a services engagement someone will scope after you sign. Those three things have wildly different implementation timelines and failure modes, and the difference is rarely explained in the sales cycle. Here is how to tell them apart.
What are native ERP connectors in accounts receivable automation?
A native connector is built and maintained by the AR vendor specifically for one ERP, using that ERP's own API. It ships as a supported product feature: you authenticate, map a handful of fields, and it keeps working through version upgrades because the vendor updates it. The alternative is a generic integration layer, a file drop, or a custom build, all of which put the maintenance burden on you.
The practical test is simple. Ask the vendor whether their connector appears in your ERP's own marketplace or app directory, and whether it is covered by their standard support SLA. A connector that lives in the NetSuite SuiteApp directory or the Sage Intacct Marketplace is a real product. A connector described as "we can integrate with anything via API" is a project.

Two things stand out in that list. The enterprise suites cluster on SAP and Oracle, and the mid-market platforms cluster on NetSuite, Sage Intacct and QuickBooks. Almost nobody builds native connectors for older on-premises systems, because the maintenance cost is high and the addressable market is shrinking. Which ERP supports automated cash application?

The flat file row is the one that quietly ruins collections programs. If payment status arrives on a nightly export, every customer who paid this morning is still in today's dunning queue. They get chased for money they already sent, they reply annoyed, and your AR team loses credibility with exactly the accounts that pay on time. Ask specifically how payment status flows back and how quickly, not just whether invoices flow out.

Five questions to ask a vendor about their ERP connector
- Is your connector listed in my ERP's own app marketplace? If not, it is probably a generic API integration with a nicer name.
- Which fields sync, and in which direction? Get this in writing. Invoices out and payments back is the minimum; custom fields, dimensions and entity structures are where it gets thin.
- How fast does payment status come back? Live, hourly and nightly are three different products from a collections perspective.
- Who maintains it when the ERP releases an update? With a native connector this is the vendor's problem. With a custom build it becomes yours.
- Can you connect to a sandbox and show me my own data this week? A vendor with a real native connector will say yes. This single question separates the product from the promise faster than any demo.
What if there is no native connector for your ERP?
This is common with older on-premises systems, industry-specific ERPs and anything acquired but not yet migrated. You have three routes. Push the vendor to confirm whether a services-built integration is in scope and who owns it afterwards. Choose a platform like Gaviti that deliberately covers on-premises systems.
